Top 10 Reasons to Install Metal Roofing

1-2: Durability and Longevity

Durability and longevity are two of the top reasons why metal roofing is better than other types of roofing such as asphalt and brick. Even the lowest or cheapest type of metal roofing such as utility panels or AG (agricultural), as it is commonly called, lasts 20-30 years; twice the lifespan of an asphalt roof! Most metal roofing manufacturers give warranties of 45-50 years on their products. That’s how much confidence roofing manufacturers have in their products’ durability and longevity.

3, 4, and 5: It is portable, lightweight, and labor efficient

Metal roofing shingles are portable and lightweight. Metal Shingles roof can be installed by a single installer, although it is preferable to have a minimum of two installers working on any one roof. Standing seam metal roofing panels are also lightweight and can provide a significant coverage with just one panel that can be up to fifty feet long and from 12 to 17 inches wide. Most standing seam metal roofing panels can be handled by two installers.

6. Resistance to the elements

Metal roofing is resistant to fire, wind, and hail. Thanks to the specially formulated coating, the snow also readily slides off a metal roof. This makes metal roofing an ideal choice in cold climates and in places with heavy snowfall. Galvalume and galvanized steel roofing corrodes at a very slow rate and wears off very slowly against. In fact in many cases there may be no signs of corrosion even after thirty years, thanks to the superior paint finish, and zinc aluminum protection. Aluminum roofing is a bit more expensive than steel roofing, but it does not corrode, no matter what climate your aluminum roof is installed in.

7-8: Environment-friendly and energy efficiency

Metal is easily recyclable and can be recycled without losing any of its properties. Most Metal roofing manufacturers often make aluminum and copper roofs from a minimum of 30% post consumer recycled metal content. Recycling metals also requires less energy or just an equal amount of energy to produce the same sort of metal. Specially formulated metal roof color finishes and coatings with high reflectivity help save twenty to thirty five percent on air-conditioning costs. This is because Cool Roof colors have the ability to reflect much of the sun’s heat.

9-10: Design flexibility and low maintenance

Steel roofing products can be installed over open frames or solid substrates. It can be used on any type of building or structure, and has many roofing styles to choose from. It can also be install on large sprung curves or buildings with rolled bulled-nose shapes. Most metal roofing also requires little or even no maintenance. Those with Kynar coating for example, are lifetime products that hardly ever need refurbishing. Kynar-coated roofs have been in use for more than half a century and haven’t yet needed any maintenance at all. Metals such as copper, stainless steel, and zinc are metals which last centuries. If maintenance is needed, it is often because of faulty building design and has nothing to do with the roof’s quality. AG grade roofs will only commonly require repainting once corrosion sets in or when its paint has worn off.

Metal roofing cost is simply much lower than the cost of other types of roofing when the cost is considered over long run.
